South Bend- A Great Place to Live

Steve Luecke chose South Bend as his home, raising his family in a community that has much to offer: affordable housing in diverse neighborhoods, educational and recreational opportunities, and arts and culture, all within easy reach.

Arts & Culture

As the regional center for arts, culture, and entertainment, South Bend is thriving under Mayor Steve’s leadership: The restored Morris Performing Arts Center has become the cultural center of downtown South Bend, ranked the top 38th theatre worldwide by Pollstar magazine. The Morris offers top name performances and infuses $5.9 million a year into nearby businesses. The adjacent Palais Royale Ballroom restoration is the jewel of South Bend.

With financial support from the City, the new South Bend Civic Theatre, Studebaker National Museum and South Bend Regional Museum of Art add to the myriad opportunities for cultural and entertainment activities.

A burgeoning arts corridor on both sides of the river downtown is generating a growing buzz and vitality that is gaining momentum in downtown South Bend. Venues like FireArts and Circa Arts galleries in the “East Village” complement Spurious Fugitive and Studio Arts Center on the west. Events like Art Beat and HipPocket! are drawing crowds hungry for affordable, enriching and fun arts-related experiences.

The IUSB Civil Rights Heritage Center will find a home in the former Natatorium in 2008, honoring our local history in space donated by the City.
