South Bend- A Great Place to Live
Steve Luecke chose South Bend as his home, raising his family in a community that has much to offer: affordable housing in diverse neighborhoods, educational and recreational opportunities, and arts and culture, all within easy reach.
Recreation
South Bend’s reputation as a sports center goes beyond thousands of spectators for Notre Dame football, baseball at Coveleski Stadium or a visit to the College Football Hall of Fame. People get into the action themselves -- rafting on the East Race Waterway, working out at the O’Brien Fitness Center, strolling or bicycling the expanding walking trails along the river, playing softball at the Belleville Sports Complex. Mayor Steve has worked to increase opportunities for South Benders to have fun and stay healthy. South Bend recently was selected as one of the nation’s first “We Can” cities for its work to reduce childhood obesity.
With 75 parks and facilities in the South Bend park system, there are fitness, sports and educational activities for people of all ages and interests throughout the year:
-
Camps, summer playground programs, tennis, track and softball leagues, as well as a Kids Triathlon.
-
Cool fun in the hot summer at Potawatomi Pool, Kennedy Water Playground and sprayparks.
Room to explore at Potawatomi Park’s Kids Kingdom, Belleville Park’s Friendship Station or play structures at Rum Village.
